THE NILE RIVER...... NEVER CAN SAY GOODBYE !!

When we decided to spend our summer vacation in Egypt, 2 things or places flashed into my mind were no other than The Pyramids and The Nile River.

This entry is dedicated to the longest river in the world , the Nile River which gave us the most precious experience for being able to sail thru it and watch the life along the bank before our own very eyes..... When I really stood, sat and swam in the Nile, I couldn't believe myself...there I was swimming in the water that I thought had two colours(while and blue ) but , water is water, it has no colour....

Meeting the village folks ( half Egyptian half Nubiens ) was a dream came true, they greeted us with their sweetest smile and they looked extremely happy even with partially completed rooftop houses with yellow and dusty sand as their ' concrete' floor. They served us with delicious traditional rice and zucchini tomato gravy, cooked by three veteran women ..... The head chief of Akaba village also came to greet us.. he spoke English very well since he used to be the felluca sailor who dealt with foreign tourists almost all the time.

The Nile is the longest river in the world, stretching north for approximately 4,000 miles from East Africa to the Mediterranean. Studies have shown that the River (Iteru, meaning, simply, River, as the Egyptians called it) gradually changed its location and size over millions of years. The Nile flows from the mountains in the south to the Mediterranean in the north. Egyptians traveling to other lands would comment on the "wrong" flow of other rivers, "inverted water that goes downstream in going upstream."

outside the house.........

inside the house...........

Three rivers flowed into the Nile from the south and thus served as its sources: the Blue Nile, the White Nile and the Arbara. Southern Egypt, thus being upstream, is called Upper Egypt, and northern Egypt, being downstream and the Delta, is called Lower Egypt. In addition to the Valley and the Delta, the Nile also divided Egypt into the Eastern and Western Deserts.
The Nile Valley is a canyon running 660 miles long with a floodplain occupying 4,250 square miles. The Delta spans some 8,500 square miles and is fringed in its coastal regions by lagoons, wetlands, lakes and sand dunes.

The Delta represented 63 percent of the inhabited area of Egypt, extending about 200 kilometers from south to north and roughly 400 kilometers from east to west.

The Nile is always there flowing and waiting for anybody who loves history and nature.....

Hello Loveujordan, wow, beautiful pictures.
There are three rivers I want to see one day, and the Nile is one of them. Sail along the river Nile on an Egyptian Dhow, see the Pyrimids at sunset or moonrise.
Other two rivers, the Yangtze, then the Amazon...this one to go fishing.
Love the way you describe the Nile and your trip, I felt I was with all of you.
Where there is history, there is Egypt.
Best regards, UL.
